Prophecy regarding the Roman Victory in the Quran
Prophecy regarding the Roman Victory in the Quran
By Ebrahim Saifuddin
The verses dealing with the prophecy is as follows:
The Roman Empire has been defeated-
In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious-
Within a few years. – [Quran 30:2-4]
When one checks the historical records we see that the defeat which the Quran talks about is the defeat faced by the Romans at the hands of the Persians who conquered parts of Syria and Anatolia. When Emperor Heraclius came to power in 610CE, Khosrow II who was the ruler of Persia was attacking the Roman Empire. 613 and 614 were bad years for the Romans as they lost Syria and Jerusalem respectively.
Some scholars suggest that this verse of the Quran was revealed in 615CE and from Islamic traditions we learn that the “few years” mentioned in the Quran refers to a time period of 3 to less than 10 years.
